Would you recognise gaslighting if you heard it

Would you recognise gaslighting if you heard it?

Here are some examples of gaslighting and Narcissistic Personality Disorder behaviours.

“You can’t feel that way because I don’t!”

“You don’t have a right to feel that way!”

“What you think isn’t important!”

“You know you’re crazy don’t you!”

“Everyone says you’re crazy!”

“That never happened!”

“I didn’t say that! You did!”

“The way you feel is irrelevant!”

“You made me hit you!”

“You made me say those things!”

“You’re so sensitive!”

“I was only joking! You’re so sensitive!”

“What is wrong with you!”

“You need to see a Doctor! I’m really worried about you!”

“You know your memory lets you down!”

“You know you always get it wrong! You’re useless!!”

Gaslighting can be emotional manipulation or it can be learnt behaviour from parents throughout childhood.

Whatever the cause is, recognise it and challenge the behaviour.

To keep on top of this it is a good idea to write down the way conversations happen so you can have it straight in your mind.

The goal of gaslighting is to knock you off balance. If done often enough the victim begins to believe the manipulation and they begin to doubt what they know is reality.

The victim begins to second guess themselves and they stop defending themselves.
