Common Issues in Blended Families

Common Issues in Blended Families

Within any family there are going to be problems between kids and parents, between siblings and between parents themselves.

With a blended family e.g. “yours, mine and ours” this complicates things 10 fold.

So what are these issues and how do you resolve them?

The way you choose to resolve these issues makes all the difference.

If a step parent goes in with “all guns blazing”, you’re automatically going to be met with resistance. Not just from the step children but also from the parent of those children.

Both parents have to be on the same page.

Both parents have to agree with the same boundaries for each child, making the boundaries age appropriate.

To build on relationships with the children it is important to make time on a daily basis for them. Make the time to ask them about their day.

Be affectionate with them.

Set aside time on the weekends to do an activity they like.

Do not undermine the other parent to the children.

If you don’t agree with the other parent, discuss the issues away from the children.

It’s important the children see you both on the same page.
