A person who is codependent will
Have poor boundaries.
Blame themselves for their partner’s behaviours, words, and actions.
Be afraid to tell the truth for fear of a person’s reaction.
Enable their child or partner in addiction using poor boundaries.
Think their behaviour and words will change another person’s behaviour or words.
Make excuses or justify another person’s toxic, unhealthy and or abusive behaviour.
Will not recognise red flags in their relationship such as emotional manipulation, abuse of any kind, love bombing, lying, or gaslighting.
Be afraid of being alone and believes their toxic relationship is normal.
How does a person become codependent?
Codependency develops from childhood trauma such as emotional abuse and manipulation, learnt behaviour from a parent or being blamed for parent’s behaviour as a child.
