๐Ÿ”ท Why do children withdraw to their device? This often happens when there is a relationship breakdown between child and parent/s. They use their devices to retreat. So what can parents do to reverse this issue?

๐Ÿ”ท Encourage family mealtimes without electronics at the table including mobile phones. This means parents can not bring their mobile phones to the dinner table either. Provide a family docking station for mobile phones at night time.

๐Ÿ”ท Limit your child’s use of electronics. Provide a 30-minute warning before their time on the device has ended so they can mentally prepare.

๐Ÿ”ท Tell them what the boundaries are around not following your time limit before an offence is made.

๐Ÿ”ท Don’t reduce the goal post for their time limit. Be consistent so the child can trust your word.

๐Ÿ”ท Make screen time depend on homework.

๐Ÿ”ท Parents have to approve all apps before downloading.

๐Ÿ”ท Reduce electronic games to weekends only.

๐Ÿ”ท Encourage outside family activities and sports away from electronic devices.

๐Ÿ”ท Parents monitor what teens are watching on TV, mobile phones, tablets and laptops etc.

๐Ÿ”ท Teach children to balance their own life through healthy habits and activities.
