The effects of Conflict on pregnancies & children

Ongoing research has been done on exposure to prenatal stress, development and long-term functioning of offspring directly and indirectly.

When the mother-to-be is either living in a toxic relationship or she herself is abusive, there are long term effects on the unborn child and children. They are affected psychologically not just in their generation but also future generations are affected as well.

Prenatal stress can indirectly affect infant health and development.

Stress indirectly affects infant development by predisposing mothers to perinatal depression which leads to the mother having negative interactions with her baby and or quality of postnatal care.

Arguing during pregnancy affects the baby’s brain all the to the immune system.

Conflict affects the baby’s IQ, and their ability to manage emotions later in life.

Physical abuse can cause stillbirths as well as low birth weight, physical injuries and bleeding.

Increased stress due to high conflict can also suppress a child’s immune system, leading to illness , health issues later on.
