Morphing in Relationships

Morphing in Relationships

When you first start dating you want to please your partner by doing everything they want to do or just doing things for them.

You may even have boundaries and values but if your partner’s boundaries and values do not match yours you might be willing to let these go.

When you do this, you morph yourself into another version of your partner to keep the relationship.

This results in losing your identity, and giving up things you enjoy, and long term it can result in ending the relationship through resentment, criticism and contempt.

You don’t realise you are cloning yourself to be like your partner until you recognise you have lost yourself along the way.

It is important for two people to get their needs met and enjoy what makes them happy, as long as it doesn’t replace time with each other for long periods on a regular basis.
