What Does Trauma Bonding Look Like?

When a person is in a toxic or abusive relationship including drug addiction and or alcoholism, they remain in the hope things Improve.

Why does a person in this type of relationship think things might change?

Because some days outside of toxic and abusive behaviour look “normal.” If the victim is a woman, they may even receive flowers on a good day or the abuser may even speak to them kindly or pay them that long awaited attention or may even be affectionate but these days are few and far between the abusive days where the victim is abused in some way such as verbally, physically, psychologically, financially, sexually or spiritual.

The good days are inconsistent so these are the days the victim holds out for with the hope these good days will not end.

Often, a victim does not recognise they’re in a toxic or abusive relationship because of the good days.

If the victim does recognise the’yre in an unhealthy relationship, they remain because they see a glance of what they think is a positive side to the victim they think can be permanent and the victim may even feel sorry for their abuser.
